Israel’s alleged torture of Turkish and American
citizens has sparked global protests. Hundreds of thousands of people across
the Middle East, the United States, and Europe have come out to show their disdain.
The
death of 10 humanitarian aid workers and Israel’s detainment of 50 Turkish, American and European European citizens,
arrested for attempting to break the Gaza blockade and supply much needed aid to Palestinians, has recently become an
immense source of tension between the United States and Israel. The international world is placing immense political pressure on Israel to return the foreign nationals to their respective homelands. Reports of torture have only exasperated the situation.
In
Turkey’s capital, Ankara, over ninety thousand protesters came out Friday to
demonstrate against Israel, chanting “we will go to Gaza in our millions,”
swearing to “sacrifice ourselves for you, Palestine.”
In
the West Bank city of Ramallah, more than 10,000 people have gathered to show
their disdain.
In
Lebanon, thousands turned up in Palestinian refugee camps in the north and south
of the country to show their outrage on the Israeli violence, shouting “O
Qassam, O beloved, bomb and destroy Tel Aviv,” referring to the rocket and the
armed wing of Hamas of the same name.
Hundreds of thousands of protesters gathered in New York City on Sunday, shutting down main arteries of the city, protesting against Israel's belligerent actions and refusal to respond to US calls for the return of American nationals.
