Israel Press Release

Prime Minister Stability and Israel The State of Israel is a state. It has a territory whose sovereignty it maintains, a populace whose lives it protects, and an identity that it defends. The state of Israel will continue to exist and as such will continue to exercise these rights in defense of its existence.
The State of Israel is a member of the international community. It cherishes and pursues peace. It values stability, both in Israel and the Middle East.
The State of Israel is an idea. Sharing its traditions of temperance, perseverance and moderation, the State of Israel stands as an outpost of modernity and a bastion of stability in a troubled region. Although it stands in opposition to the interests of some states, it will stand in opposition to none of the ideas of the international community: promoting democracy, liberalism, and the inherent dignity of all individuals. Israel is an idea that will persist, it is an idea that cannot be eliminated or abridged and Israel will not tolerate attempts to do so.

Recent actions against Israel stand in opposition to these facts. Current actions taken by the Islamic Republic of Iran to foment rebellion within Israel violates the inviolable and assails the very integrity of the Israeli state. It is abhorrent that not only would a state seek to advance violence as a means of achieving its desires, but that it would do so in such a way so as to violate the very tenets of diplomacy. Unlike many who seek its destruction, Israel is a state governed by law. Attempts by vessels, regardless of nationality, to violate the naval containment zone is a violation of Israeli law and is in turn a repudiation of the sovereignty of the state itself. While Israel expresses its regret over the loss of life it will not apologize for its efforts to enforce internal protocols and to ensure the survival of its state.

- Benjamin Netanyahu
