NATO Newsroom: Official Press Release

NATO intelligence can now report that 24 small arm weapons were found aboard one of the flotilla ships. However, the purpose of these weapons is unknown. We can also state that intelligence points towards there being 50 detainees, not 12 or 13. The nationalities of these detainees include: American, French, Turkish, Dutch, Italian, and British. We hope that the hostages who are not tied to hostile militant groups be released. The American nationals were members of the Doctors without Borders organization on a trip to Jordan. The French nationals were doctors in the Medecins Sans Frontieres NGO. The Turkish nationals were affiliated with the Foundation for Human Rights and Freedom and Humanitarian Relief, to ensure their food and humanitarian aid was delivered to the proper distribution. The identities of the Dutch, Italian, and British nationals have not been identified. This is important information for countries to know and should be taken into account for any decisions made in regards to this situation. We hope that all possible measures are taken to avoid more violence, in addition to holding those who have committed violence accountable.
